Then I guess a bunch of old men kicked France's *** in July.

Some are in their 30's, Totti for example will not be on the next squad. However, Cannavaro, Gattuso, Nesta, Pirlo, Materazzi, Buffon, Toni, De Rossi, Grosso, Gilardino, Ignazhi, will all be still young enough to play (nearly all in there 20s or early 30s). Plus there might be a few 18-20 year olds that aren't even on the radar screen yet from Italy's excellent under 21 program.

Zizou was 34 I think for the final game. The oldest person on the squad that I have named above will be around that age in 2010.

Ya know, if believing that they are all old geezers changing their diapers on the sidelines makes you feel more optimistic about the future then I say go with it!

edit: Maradona prompted me to check a few things out and Cannavaro and Materazzi will be 37 for the next WC. Totti will actually be younger than them.

Sorry, every Italian fan perfectly knows this issue. And no one is afraid at all. Too often a strong aging team fails its last chance to achieve a major tournament win, this WC Italy strikes.
And never say "never"...
Italian football is a top level one.
Italy won Uefa Euro Under-21 championship in
1992
1994
1996
2000
2004
Needless to say, many WC players were former Euro U-21winners...
In the last Euro U-21 they failed to qualify to semi-finals with this result (group B):
Ukraine 6
Netherland 4
Italy 4
Neth. qualify having won Italy in their match against, and after Neth won the competition against Ukraine...
This means Italian football is still alive. It could be they will face an harsh 2010 (by now I think so), but Italy is a top level country in football anyway.

Well, you see, as I AM facing the truth, I can see that players such as Alberto Gilardino (born in 1982), Daniele de Rossi (born in 1983), and Christian Zaccardo (born in 1981) will clearly still be at suitable ages to participate in the World Cup in 2010.

Perhaps you could try gathering some knowledge on a topic before making conclusions.

There are plenty of young people in that team. We've got a few new players in their 20's including Aquilani, who is 22 and plays for Roma. Plus, Gilardino is currently 23 and he is an amazing player. Um.. and there's not any old people on the French team? I don't think so...

I wouldn't say never, but next one definitely not!!!!! Cannavaro, Materazzi and Inzaghi will be 37 at the next WC, Gilardino, De Rossi, Zaccardo and Aquilani are good but not good enough to win the WC, Italy doesn't have any U-21 perspective player...... this was golden Italian generation, similar like Croatia had in France98... there is no way that Italy can come to the semis in the next two WCs!!!!!

So what? At least, they beat the France during the tournament. It's just that the French need to deal with the fact that they lost the trophy to Italy. France is the one who is afraid to face the truth.

I'm not the Oracle of Delphi but I think sooner or later another crop of Italian players will emerge and they could win wc. 'Sides when Paolo Rossi's team last won wc nobody thought they would win another wc but look havent they?
