The other question about swimmers lung got me curious. How many competitive swimmers have asthma? Did you develop asthma while you were swimming or do you swim because you have asthma?
I’ve have been swimming masters for the last 8 years and have had exercise induced asthma for about the last 5 years. I can’t really tie the asthma to swimming. Almost all my swimming is in a pool, the only open water swimming I do is racing triathlons.

Interesting... I thought this was the reason why many swimmers take up the sport. To help with the condition. As yes lots of top Olympic swimmers seem to have asthma.

Asthma is just something that you can either work through doing swimming or not I mean I know people who have to take their inhalers to eery practice and use it right before they swim their meet and sometimes they even have asthma attacks in the water and after all that they still want to swim so what does that say about them and asthma is just something that makes you stronger.

I have asthma and I am a good swimmer .My advise is just keep on trying practice makes perfect.

I've been doing swimming for about 2 years in high school and i am on the varsity team. i have sports athsma. i devloped it years before i begam to swim and i began swimming to prove i can compete in a sport besides my athsma

i do know in swimming... its the way to lessen the asthma by practising in the pool somehow...
