a pap smear is a routine exam done by a licensed gynocologist. they will stick something like a long q-tip up your vagina and swab it around in your cervix to check for cervical cancer. this can feel a little uncomforable, but shouldn't hurt much or at all.

good luck!

A pap smear is how your doctor checks for cervical cancer. It doesn't hurt at all. You lie on your back on the doctor's table, with your feet in stirrups. The doctor puts a speculum in your vagina to hold it open. That may feel a little strange at first, but it doesn't hurt at all. Then the doctor takes some cells from your cervix using a long q-tip type thing. You won't be able to feel that at all. Usually this takes place during a pelvic exam, so the doctor will also look inside, and feel around your lower belly and pelvis. It's extremely important for you to have a pap smear once a year as part of an annual gynecological exam. All women who are sexually active or over the age of 18 should do this every year.

Ok, I had one 3 days ago and it hurt. It was more uncomfortable but it hurt me. I am not sexually active though so I don't know if that makes a difference. After the pap I was sore for like a day. They put this device up you and expand it so they can brush the inside of you to test the cells for cancer.

Pap smears are done to test for cervical cancer. A Pap smear should not be painful if done right. Who said that you should have one?

It is a test of the cervix. They are looking for traces of cancer cells. According to my wife it is "uncomfortable" I guess "hurts" is up to the lady experiencing it.

Yes, it is uncomfortable. It shouldn't be painful, but it's not pleasant. But it's something you need to have done, for your own health. Plus, they will check for STDs.
