Steel is one of the most highly recycled materials in the world, so technically, all cars are made up of recycled parts. The Scion is not put together with junk parts from other cars. Your friend is wrong. All cars are also designed to collapse in an accident, so that the car absorbs all of the impact and it lessens the forces and damage to the passengers. Even a minor accident will cause extensive damage, not because the car is a piece of junk, but because it's designed to do that for safety. Scion is made by Toyota - one of the best made cars in the world - they are not junk

Scion is a brand of vehicles produced by Toyota Motor Corporation founded in 2003. Scion's long-term goal is to appeal to Generation Y consumers, expected to dwarf the market size of Generation X by 2020. Scion grew from Toyota Project Genesis, a failed effort to bring younger buyers to the Toyota marque in the United States. Scion is Toyota's entry-level brand, slotting below Toyota in the lineup. Currently, Toyota markets Scion-branded vehicles in the United States, Guam, and Puerto Rico.

Yes, it's manufactured in their Takaoka plant located in Japan. It's on the Scion website under FAQ.
