The visual predation theory provides a possible explanation for the origins of primates. This theory suggests that primates evolved from small mammals, who lived in bushes found on the forest floor. These small mammals ate insects that also lived on the forest floor. In order to catch an insect, these small mammals may have used their hands. (1)

Apparently, none of the other people who answered your question have had even a rudimentary education in Anthropology and/or Primatology. All primates appear to have evolved from a common ancestor which is most similar to the modern animal known as the 'tree shrew'. This is a rodent-like animal which is only considered a primate because it has nails instead of claws. Branches of the primate family include lemurs, marmosets, new world monkeys, old world monkeys, apes, and hominids. If your real question was supposed to be that if humans evolved from monkeys, then where did monkeys evolve from, then your question shows a clear lack of understanding of what exactly evolution is. If on the other hand, your question was a request to understand where monkeys evolved from then I would suggest that you start with a simple physical anthropology text and a basic primatology text . 'Physical Anthropology' by Gabriel Ward Lasker is a good text and so is 'The Evolution of Primate Behavior ' by Clifford Jolly

Simple answer to simple question. Monkeys evolved from lemurs; lemurs evolved from tarsiers; tarsiers from toopayas – a squirrel-like animal living in India (I don’t know its English name); and toopaya is a typical rodent;

Cuban Friend gave the most accurate answer. He knows his stuff.
To nycfunction's diatribe about DNS disproving evloution, I would say:
He's dead wrong. DNA studies give evidence in favor of evolution, not against it. The field of genetics that studies DNA to determine evolutionary species history is called phylogenetics. Go here and search on that word to learn more about it:

Animals and humans did not evolve; we were created by a creator called God.
Recent studies of DNA have proven that the entire evolution theory contradicts itself at all levels.
