i'm working on a timeline for spanish class. but some of the events tell me the year was "711". So does that mean it's automatically "711 B.C" or should it be left alone as "711"?

When it doesn't say anything it usually means AD.

the years BC is counting backwards from the time of the birth of the christ. If a date is giving, it's usually AD, so 711 AD

It depends if its 711 years before the birth of Christ or 711 years after the birth of Christ.

If just a number is given as a year, it is assumed to be AD. If BC, then it will be stated. Also, in terms of Spanish civilization, there was little going on beyond tribal states prior to the Romans wandering around the countryside in the early BC years. The peace brought by the Roman stability allowed Spain to unify.

in archeology, when you say 711, it means A.D. (anno Domini, god's year, after the Christ was born), B.C. means before Christ, and it's up to 10000 years B.C. everything before that we say before now, because we get these dates from carbon testing, and the zero year for that are 40-ties, before atomic bomb. so, 711 means after Christ.

people didnt start useing years until jesus arrived because people knew god was gonna give them a sign becuase of the seasons.
like how in some places its the year 06

When it is not indicated, it generally means A.D.. Today, we don't say 2006, A.D.
