It depends completely what you want to do with it. If you mostly want to use the computer in one place, get a desktop. If you want to play games, get a desktop. If you want a lot of power for your money, get a desktop. If you want something for browsing the internet, email, and word processing, and you are on the go a lot, and you don't mind paying 2-3 times more for the same performance, then get a laptop.
A desktop will always last longer, since there is more room inside the case for heat dissipation (less chance of burning out a Hard Drive or CPU), and all of the components are easily replaceable/upgradable, so if something does go wrong, you can easily fix or replace only that part. If something breaks in a laptop, you pretty much have to replace the whole thing, since all the components are so tightly integrated.

I recommend a laptop.
I have had three laptops and they last just as long as a desktop. Plus, they are much more versatile. For example, whenever I go on a trip I always throw a couple of DVDs in my laptop bag to watch on the plane. It is true that the batteries tend to lose their ability to hold a charge, but there are ways around that (take out the battery when you have it plugged into the wall socket).
Even if you decide you want a new computer in a couple of years, it is still nice to keep the laptop as a second computer (just for checking email or surfing the net).

You know to be honest with you I would get a desktop but that is just me, it all depends on what you are going to use it for. Will you be traveling alot or no? If you will be traveling then get a laptop. I think laptops are more sensitive to damage than a desktop. You can easily break a laptop if your not carefull..

Hi,
It totally depends on the purpose that you use it for. If you are a very busy person finding no time to respond to others calls then most likely you can go for a Laptop, where you can use the Wi-Fi card to access the internet or you can use your mobile phone and get the laptop connected with your mobile and stay connected with others and respond to them asap. But otherwise you can go for a desktop which would be more safe.
Thanks,
Mr. Zx

Desktop.
No batteries to replace
Can replace/upgrade components instead of buying a new one
Repairing a desktop is WAAAAAAAAAAAY cheaper
Laptops typically have older technology components, or are much more expensive for parts that are cheaper on a desktop

Desktop PC's tend to last long then laptops because they can be more rugged in their desire and take less stress.
By lasting, do you mean function or become obsolete faster? Both will become onsolete at the same pace, and desktops tend to be more upgradeable, and you can replace the CPU without the monitor (I'd on my 3rd system with the same monitor for example).
Desktos also tend to be cheaper.

Depends what you need it for. If you need it to be fast and ur not going to store much on it, go for laptop. But if you need lots of room and don't need super fast, sure desktop.
