The only way is to reinstall t he operating system. This is soething that you could jstu downlaod a nd work. You need to buy the CD and a product key. If yo uwant email me at garrettjew@yaho.com and Ill send you a CD of XP PRO and a key number for free because my dad works for the company and he has like 50 CDS.

You wont be able to get it on line, but in the batch of disks that came with your computer. If one is marked Windows, boot up on that CD, and choose the repair windows option. If you just have generic disks, it will probably wipe your hard drive and reload as the computer was originally. If neither option exhists, then you may have to get a new copy of windows.

Legally, you can't. Contact the maker of the laptop and ask if they can send you another copy of the "recovery" CD.

If the laptop has a serial tag on the bottom (license) from Microsoft, you may be able to call them directly and have them ship you a new CD but they will charge a fee (I think it was $10).

If you have backup file, then copying the lost files.

No free software. Only professional can do data recovery, not hobbyers, because they must take your disk drive to run on another computer with external drive and special software to recover the lost files on CD output. It's very costly work to scan the whole disk drive.
