The Treaty of Paris, which ended WWI called for the Germans to pay huge reparations to other European countries. In addition inflation and their lack of ability to build an armed force hindered their economic development.

Hyperinflation since Germany first thought that in order to pay the debts, given to them by the Treaty of Versailles, all they would have to do is to print more money and pay it off.

Because of this, a depression hit Germany around the time of our depression in America.
