They both have their pros and cons but for me the fake is easier and much cheaper so I suggest going that route

That depends on where you live and what you grew up with. It also depends on do you want to clean up a mess, fool around with putting the lights on the tree until they are just right, take the time to prune back the branches so you have the smell then decorate it ever so carefully.
I like the real thing! The smell, the time a real tree takes, the traditional real thing. But I live where there are plenty to choose from we don't have to buy one. We just go to the woods and cut down the one we like!
A fake tree comes with lights, no smells, no guess work and not a whole lot of effort has to go into it. But you can also buy it once and not have any traditions tied to it.
So I would say neither is better it just depends on how much time and energy you want to put into it and how much tradition you have.

James, this question is definately one of individual preference. I grew up with real trees but use a fake one I've had for about 13 years now. Some people won't consider anything a tree but a real tree. Others wouldn't have a real tree if you gave it to them. It's just like which sweater is best, the blue one or the green one. Depends on who is going to wear the sweater...or have the tree in their house. Merry Christmas!

I've always liked real trees; putting up a fake one seemed somehow like cheating. However, in recent years our trees haven't had that great pine smell and they've shed needles all over the place. Plus, they are ridiculously expensive. So now we have a fake tree and it's growing on me.

Well it depends! If you want to clean up a lot then you should get a real one, but if not i would get a fake Christmas Tree! So i recommend a fake one unless you like cleaning!

i prefer fake. its less messy BY FAR. you dont need to buy one eah year. if you wiat till the last minute, you dont have to drive around eveywhere looking for one. you can even get ones with lights already on them.theres no to for care (like watering) and its the perfect shape. and when ur done, just dismante it and put it away until next year. The only thing i miss is the smell, but you could always by a candle or some sorta air freshener that smells like pine.
thats just my opinion though, some people feel its blasphamy to use a fake tree

I never could agree with cutting down a beautiful tree to stick in my house to die. Get a fake tree. If you want that evergreen smell get a couple of pine boughs and make a swag for over the doorway or fireplace.

Real. Not just for the obvious reason, that it smells better and gives that true warm feeling of Xmas, but for not-so-obvious reasons too.
Kari: Do your research first.... Fake trees are bad for the environment. The chemicals used to make them don't break down properly and pollute our soil, water, and kill plants and animals.
Yes, a real tree means you just killed a real tree. So, plant one in its place, or ten, www.treesforlife.org. And, dispose of your real tree properly by recycling it...

I use a fake tree because I am allergic to cedar. It is actually safer, as real trees dry out even if you keep them watered and are more likely to catch fire.
