I'm American, my heritage is German/Mexican/other stuff...don't really know, because I was born in America and I will die in America. I've yet to witness any one of the minorities, such as blacks and mexicans, in my city to be discriminated against. They always seem to pull the damn race card on themselves. I absolutly hate HATE hearing "it's cause I'm black, isn't it?" No it's not! Get the hell over it. Yes there are still racist people but for the most part and when I say most I mean almost all, are not racist! Whites have gotten over segregation but when is everyone else going to let it go? If we were to have an all white college or an all white network, another civil war would break out, but why is it ok for you? We're not the ones that began slavery and we're not the ones that slaughtered your people...don't blame us. I don't mean to offend, but I know that I'm going to get hatred out of this because that's all there is, no one that listens.

Oh, by the way, I do hang out with a very diverse group and happen to live in a neighborhood that has mostly mexicans and blacks, so don't tell me that I don't know.

I've experienced that BS too. I was working at a retail store where a woman wanted to return a dress that she wore. I told her the return policy which was clearly printed on her receipt and she called me a racist!!! Whoa! Where did that come from? She pulled out an NAACP card and asked me if I knew what that meant? I point to the receipt and asked her if she knew what the return policy meant? She got steaming mad, called me a racist name, and left the store!! What a hypocrit.

What ticks me off is that I have to score higher on tests than minorities to get into certain schools because of the color of my skin. How's that for the ultimate card?

Oh, yeah, slavery was over two hundred years ago. Get over it. If anyone has a right to be ticked off, it's the American Indians. They lost the entire North America and got back little parcels called reservations?

You're so tired of people pulling the race card and I'm so tired of people who don't know anything saying that people are always pulling the race card. Granted, yes, there are few who take things to the extreme, but if you even look on Y!A there are so many racist out there who just hate minorities and say so many ignorant things out of their mouths.......u really think almost all of white people are not racist. YEAH RIGHT. Maybe not outfront in your face racist but there are definitely a whole lot of them. Do you live the life of a black person or a latino person everyday....I think not. So you can't tell them that they do not deal with discrimination and hatred. Maybe you haven't seen it and that is fine......but I have, I've seen it done to people that I don't even know. And about the segreagation.........white people have gotten over it, well Im sure they have. They didn't have to go into the back of public places, get out of their seats on buses for another person, sit on the back of the bus, get kicked out of resteraunts for being born who they are, get the worst of things, get beat up and have the person get away with it just because they were white... so please with the whole white people got over it. That's a load of BS. Yeah it hurts for a person to look and see that's the way their grandparents were treated and that's how society views them so maybe they are a little sensitive when people say certain things but you are not in their shoes so don't judge until you've experienced what they have.

Whats the point? Does it really affect you to the point of submission to Yahoo Answers.

Life is a rat race everyone is trying to get by. Some people use the "race card" to their advantage. Then you have a seperate set of people who are bitter or down right mean so they take their anger out on someone who fits the discription of one who mistreated them in the past or maybe they had an altercation with this race and they feel every person within this race is a reflection

Try to put yourself in someone else's shoes before you rant again.

"Whites have gotten over segregation"?? Oh yeah, 'cuz segregation was soooo hard on white people, made life really tough, didn't it? Do you have ANY idea how ignorant that statement sounds?

And for the last time, people - YES, colleges and networks that cater specifically to one racial or ethnic group do seem unfair on the surface, but they are addressing a fundamental inequality in the way our society works. Many colleges, neighborhoods, networks, businesses, etc are practically all-white by the simple fact that whites are the largest population group in this country, so some choose to cater to a niche market, a select group of minorities.
You think it's unfair that blacks have BET? Flip around Fox, ABC, Disney, WB, and count how many white faces you see. Kinda a lot, isn't it? But if it's unfair to devote channels to certain select groups, then we should also get rid of WE (Women's Entertainment), Nickelodean, that Christian prayer channel... heck, most of cable would have to go if they couldn't base their programming on select genders, races, ages, language groups. Try traveling to another country for a week, and see if you aren't a little glad when you find a channel in English. Not so bad when the "outsiders" have a little something to call their own, is it?

I agree with you that many minorities tend to jump the gun in assuming that every rejection is based on their race. It usually isn't, and when it is, it usually isn't intentional or conscious (not that that makes it any easier). Minorities should give whites the benefit of the doubt, just as whites should realize that racism comes in far subtler forms than slavery and swear words.

I hate being referred to as racist at any time when I phrase some thing incorrect. Sometimes I'm simply announcing that particular races are prone to particular matters, like sicknesses or stereotypes, and I do not imply whatever imply via that. And I believe exclusive races are fascinating, in particular those who find themselves combined, so I am continually asking approximately persons's heritages - they are primary! And when you consider that while did "black" emerge as a "racist" phrase? Oh, and "Asian" too! And "Mexican"! And the whole thing in among! My goodness!

Yes, and I am especially tired of people pulling it on yahoo answers when they see anything that "offends them." Too many people answer questions that have nothing to do with them or their answer has nothing to do with the question and is just a complaint about the nature of the question. This is YAHOO ANSWERS, people. NOT yahoo I want to pull the race card.

I hear ya on all that and agree.

I'm Filipino/German.

I do think people mistake and improperly intermingle stereotyping with racism though. There are things that are inherent to a given race/culture that are 'stererotypical' to them - but recognizing that doesn't mean someone is racist.

1st "Vandy" doesnt know ****... and "the truth" is right... if you actually hung out with people from the "minority" group then you would know that the truth. Why do people of color (black/latin or whatever) get followed in stores? Why is "he is going to rob me" the 1st thing that comes to mind when you see a black or latin man. EVERYONE in the U.S. at one point in their family history or another is or was illegal. And for your information not all latins are Mexican, nor is the latin community the "minority" anymore. Get your facts straight.

I definately am! If someone is getting picked on or harassed it's probably because he/she is an a**hole in the first place. The only people who get drama are the ones who cause drama!

I heard this from another user here on Y/A.
As long as there is white privilege there will always be the race card to counter it.

White privilege in it's own right is the race card.
