Bettas are so much happier in a tank. Try it and see. You'll notice that he is much more active and wont just sit there like in a bowl.

Also, depending on the other types of fish in the tank, you will want to keep a real close eye. Some fish just happen to think that the male bettas tail looks delicious. For example, goldfish pester bettas. Once I had a betta in a tank with a guppy. They were extremely happy for a long time. Then one day, the betta ate the guppy. A different betta that I had was never good with any other fish whatsoever. He was a bully and would attack anything that moved.

Just keep you eyes open. Some bettas do good while others dont.
(and for the naughty ones, you can get a three or a five gallon tank just for that one)
:)

It is most definitely OK. You will need to be a little careful about what other fish you put in there with them though.

Other bettas are out of the question. Some claim that a tank of 75 gallons is big enough for two bettas, but that's an awful lot of wasted space even if it is true.

Bettas sometimes attack other fish, especially colorful ones that wag their tails. Fancy tail guppies are a common target, as are neon tetras.

Bettas will almost never harm algae eaters, bottom feeders, and fish that are white, brown, or grey. Corydoras seem to agree quite well with bettas. Gold snails add a little more color to the scene.

PLEASE put him in a filtered tank, it's much better for them. no fish should be in an unfiltered tank. you should also put a heater in with him, they need temps around 75-80 degrees. most houses are around 65-70, which means the water temp is in the 60's. waaay too cold for them.

also, DON'T keep a male and female together. they will kill eachother. male have to be kept alone or with passive tropical fish that don't have long fins, like slow moving tetras and such. females can be kept together as long as there are three or more and the tank is big enough to house them. just thought I'd clear that up before you decided to listen to the person above and throw a female in with him. (now of course there have been those few times where people beat the odds and successfully kept a male and a female together, but only in 30gallons or more and HEAVILY planted. and it's still VERY risky)

Bettas love large filtered tanks. The only thing to remember is the males are poor swimmers. So avoid really strong power heads, and be sure he has something to rest on out of the current.

Yep, i do that with my 2 bettas in my 10 gallon tank. i read on bettatalk that bettas dont enjoy swimming in the rough currents that some filters make so i try to not filter as much. by the way, i also got a blue betta!its a crowntail.

Not only is this ok, it really is the only way to keep a betta healthy.

I know that many stores sell them in bowls, and it's true that they can SURVIVE in a bowl. However they will never thrive in a bowl.

They really require a heater and filtration.

They prefer a filtered tank yes, and you should see him be quite interactive and fun if the tank is large enough.

cool, just make sure that he is alone or with a female, not another
male. heck you can raise them, they breed like rabbits.
