I'm interested in getting a phone and service from Verizon before the month is over. If I get it a week before the month ends, will they bill me for this month or will they start next month?

I don't want to pay for a full month without getting a month of service.

Verizon bills a month in advance. Your first bill will have a prorated monthly service charge for the fraction of a month plus the normal monthly charge for the next full month. Also your activation fee will be on your first month's bill so it will be larger than what you'll get after that.

Also, your billing cycle most likely will NOT be the first of the month. It differs for everyone and they will tell you when your cycle starts when you activate. Still, they will prorate partial months so you still will get what you pay for. Also, when they prorate, they prorate your minutes too. For example, if your plan normally has 500 anytime minutes and you start off with only 5 days until your cycle begins, you'll only get 83 anytime minutes to use for those 3 days. This will all be explained to you by your representative.

If your service starts in the middle of a billing period, they will prorate your charges as well as the amount of minutes you can use until the next billing period begins. You will not pay for the entire month of service, just for the amount of time that you did have it and any overage charges you may incur. They may charge you a month in advance, however.

Verizon's monthly bills start the day you sign up with them. For example if you sign up on the 27th, your month will end on the 26th of each month.
