Not sure if you're referring to the new one, or the 1933 original. I think the scenes are similar in both.
Referring the 1933 version, he's probably just being 100% sure the rex is dead. Then again, maybe he's just relishing a victory; who among us doesn't brag or do something to celebrate a positive accomplishment?
