I have a choice between two colleges. Western Michigan and Central Michigan. I've been told that Western doesn't have a Law enforcement program but does have criminal justice. I've heard Central has a good law enforcement program. If i just want to become a regular cop raise ranks through the department and then eventually join S.W.A.T which class would be best to take? Thanks in advanced.

Typically, the program that you take only affects the department that you join. If you really apply yourself while in school and get into a decent sized department, the only thing that will hold you back is your own ambition. Best of luck!

To move up through the ranks, you'll eventually need an education of some kind. Either will do, but I would make an appointment with a local police chief. I had done the same, and was told they don't tend to hire an overeducated beat cop, because the higher the education, the higher the turnover. You might be considered overeducated with CJ, which is more for Parole/Probation.

To just be a "regular cop", the law enforcement program is your best bet. Either should qualify you for employment as a policeman, but in Missouri, anyway, criminal justice leans more toward social work, paralegal and pre-law careers. Have you spoken to any police officers who went to either college? I would do that before making a decision.

i think the lassoing course they teach in fort worth, texas, is one that all wanna be cops should take. then you don't have to do a rodney king on every you stop. but since you really want to be a copy maybe swing that billy stick is one of the main things you are looking forward to, eh?
