If you continually download programs which run at startup as processes, your computer will slow down because of all the programs running in your backround without your knowledge. If you have low system RAM and a crappy harddrive with low seek time, your system will be slowed down because it will take more time to find and access information stored in your computer (assuming you're downloading files and browsing the internet). My advice is to not download programs or install programs that you do not need, and modify your program settings so as to not make every program start when your computer starts - this well help reduce wait times at startup and will increase your computer's speed.

There are many reasons for your pc slowing down over time. One major reason for your pc slowing down is the fact that you have way too many programs installed on your pc. Secondly it could be that the RAM or hard drive space is way below that required for some programs.

A way to avoid this is by regularly upgrading things like your RAM, graphics card if u play video games or CAD programs.

Install a decent anti virus, firewall and spyware scanner. Something like norton or mcafee should do the trick and spybot search and destroy.

If you want your pc to run smoothly and fast like you just bought a new one I would recommend purchasing a second internal or external hard drive. By having a second you could install all of the secondary programs that you sometimes use on that.

You should do disk clean up regularly and disk defrag too to make your pc run effectively

When you install a program or surf the internet, the PC has to save the files on your hard drive before it can open them. Over time this stuff accumulates on your PC and makes the performance slower. Programs like ad-aware by lavasoft.com help clean some of the garbage out. Cleaning your PC by deleting temp files and cookies also helps.

the memory/ hard drive fills up with information (temporary internet files, fragmented files, deleted items, etc) and that causes the computer to run slower because it has no room memory to store info so it spends time looking for a place to put things.

The solution - do a disk clean up of your c drive, then defragment your computer. Also clear out your unused items under the documents in your start tab (also delete out unused pics from your "my Pictures").

you will see a vast improvement. I just did this to my boss's computer and he went from 0 free space to 20% free space (and he can actually access his e-mail again without spending all day in his office .. thus he can now go home early and let me goof off)

The reason why because that everytime you Log on the internet, it will save all history and data on your hard drive. also the Auto-Updates. Many program will run in the backround that cause your computer runs very slow. Also the Anti-Virus Program. This program will Auto-Update it self everyday and runs in the backround everytime you turn on your computer.

You should always Tune it up every week.
Take it to any Computer Store for a Tune-Up.
After tune-up it will run very smooth and fast.

There are many answers but Ill ist the most comon. First is viruses and spyware, then maybe it is because you are low in ram. As new software comes out with better tech. that means it uses more ram. and as computers get older and software needing mroe ram, the computer lakcs enough ram. So it is mianly those two. If you are buying a new computer I suggest you buy one that has alot of ram, goo processor and overall probably from dell.

Many reasons...
Not enough memory for everything it's doing (get more memory)
Unwanted spyware running in the background (remove spyware)
Filesystem disorganization ( run defrag)
Not enough free disk space (clear out some old stuff)
Too much heat (check CPU and other fans)
It's not slower, you've gotten used to a faster machine elsewhere (get a faster machine)
