You're going to have trouble finding a bank or even a credit union willing to work with you, especially as one of your creditors was a bank.

I was fortunate when I was forced to file bankruptcy in that I didn't owe my credit union any money. If I had, they would have promptly closed my account. And since my job requires direct deposit, that would have caused me to possibly lose my job.

I honestly don't know what to tell you. Bankruptcy stays on your record for at least 7 years. I've heard that it may go to 10. Ouch!

Good luck.

Two separate issues. Since a bank which reports to chexsystems was a creditor it will be difficult to get an account opened with any institutions that uses chexsystems as a screener. Most banks now will also do a credit check before approving an account to be opened and possibly deny you simply because of the bankruptcy irregardless of your chexsystems record. In your case you have two big hurdles to overcome. Your best option is to work with a bank that has a compelling reason to do business with you such as one that has a long standing relationship with a relative or the company you work for....not likely you will be successful though....sorry and good luck.

Nope! It will be on chex systems for up to 7 years and actually MOST banks will not open any account for you if you are on this report. Some banks will if you have ressolved the situation with the bank and they give a written letter, but I don't think Bankruptcy counts as being settled.

think about it...would you, as a bank owner open an account for someone who has filed bankruptcy and have a chance to lose money?...i doubt it!

No I dont think so. My older sister filed for bankruptcy, she tried to get a new bank account, and they wouldn't let her. Im calling her right now to see what happened, she dsaid she had to go under a friends bank account until she can build her credit.

It's not likely they will let you. You owe them money.
