I read everyone else's answers and they are right. You should go down, mingle and enjoy yourself.

But I'm betting you're asking this question, not because you don't know the question, but you don't know how to execute it. It's easy to say "mingle" and "talk to people" but if you're shy or if you know no one, this is damn difficult to accomplish.

So arm yourself with 5 conversation starters During a holiday season, it's almost easy since everyone is talking about "the day".

Start wtih:

Hi, I'm [insert name], are you enjoying the party? wait for their response and then follow up with one of these:

1) So what did you ask Santa to put under your Christmas tree this year?

2) So, one of my New Year's resolutions is going to be more travel, and I'm asking everyone if they've been to any interesting places that they would recommend. Have any?

3) So, what do you think the chances are that we're going to have a white Christmas this year?

4) So, what would you do if you found out there really was a North Pole wtih a Santa and elves?

5) So, are you done with your Christmas present shopping?

Yeah, I know, I put "So" in front of all the sentances. It's a great word to break the silence before you ask a question. =)

Good luck.

Grab a drink from your fridge & go on down. Mill through the people until you find someone you kinda know or would want to know & strike up a conversation. Have another drink and bop to the tunes. You don't have to be a great dancer to actually dance...just look like you know what you are doing!!

I'd go. I'd dress in what makes me feel comfortable and beautiful, not worry about dancing, and go meet some people. The great thing about knowing few people is that you can bring whatever part of your personality that you want to the forefront. They don't know you... they don't know that you are feeling kinda shy and insecure. Fake it til you make it! And have fun while you are doing it!

Go to it, who cares if you can't dance, probably half the people down there can't dance but they dance anyways, just for fun. And even if you don't know anyone down there, it's your chance to go back some new friends.

definately don't dance... especially if you drink. If you 're single... be friendly, borderline flirty... socialize, mingle... introduce yourself. Don't get drunk.... then you'll leave a terrible 1st impression. If you're not single... ask if it's okay to bring somebody... usually it will be. But, if you do take someone... do not stay stuck to that person and make yourself unapproachable.

Have a drink or two to calm your nerves and introduce yourself to people. Do not get wasted or you will just make a fool of yourself. Join in conversations. And don't WORRY. You will have a good time.

Definitely go. It's a great opportunity to get to know them, and maybe there'll be some hotty's there that can teach you to dance.

Act as bartender or server, this will get you to talk with everyone at the party and be a big help to your host!
