if I buy a nintendo wii in the US which uses ntsc, will it work in UK which uses pal secam or vice versa?

2006-12-20 09:24:00 · update #1

or does nintendo wii has both ntsc and pal secam capabilities?

2006-12-20 09:25:37 · update #2

the reason I ask is because I intend to bring the nintendo wii to the Philippines which is NTSC and uses the same power source (220v) like the UK, unlike in US which uses 110v but is using the NTSC system

If your TV is multisystem then it will be able to use an NTSC signal. Many tellys are these days. However, an American Wii will only be able to play NTSC games, to the best of my knowledge so even if your telly can use the signal, you'll have to get all your games from the North America or Japan as well.

The American Wii will only do NTSC and the European Wii will only do PAL. While the games are not region encoded, the hardware will only permit NTSC games to be played on an NTSC Wii, and PAL games on a PAL Wii. You cannot play PAL games on an NTSC Wii or vice versa.

You can get an adapter to step down the mains voltage to 110 to run the American Wii.

Proabably not, at least I dont think, because the point of releasing them in Europe later is always changing the format of it all, depends on your TV, and if that TV is going to be able to be powered in Europe, they have a whole different system.
