My middle girl used to do something similar.

He's probably looking for your attention. Just curious, exploring the world. If it bothers you, find a way to redirect his hand. Give him a toy to hold. Hold his hand in yours. Get a nursing necklace to wear for him to play with. Give him eye contact when he does it.....it may be all he is looking for.

He is exploring and learning, and your lips look like fun things to touch. My son still touches my lips, why really I don't know. Do you talk to him while nursing, because maybe he is trying to feel what you are doing.

He's just loving you. My daughter touches my lips, grabs my nose, pulls my earrings out, while she's having her bottle. They just want to play and eat at the same time I guess!

Better touching your lips than pinching your other nipple.

Mine alternates between the two.

Remarkably babies can only see about as far as your face when you are nursing. He is just trying to connect with you and that's about as far as he can see.
How sweet!

he wants your attention, that's all it is. Baby's crave human interaction. He's just making sure he's getting all Mom's attention.
