Cons-It takes away your want to do anything constructive and fills your arteries and veins with plaque. Not to mention the memory loss.

Pro-It is not as incapacitating as alcohol.

I took a class on drugs and drug dependency several years ago, and the main thing I got out of the class was total astonishment that pot is illegal and alcohol is legal. Alcohol causes so many problems, yet it is very socially acceptable. It's been a long time, so I don't remember the exact figure, but I think it was well over 80% of ALL emergency room visits are alcohol related. Look how many people get drunk and fight - how many people get stoned and fight?

I say your friend isn't hurting anyone, so why do you care? I'm sure you have habits she isn't too fond of - is it really worth losing the friendship over?

Pot is not a serious health threat. That is the conclusion of every major government commission report that has ever studied the subject. You can find them at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer under Major Studies of Drugs and Drug Policy.

Tobacco kills about 400,000 people per year. Alcohol kills about 100,000 and is responsible for huge social problems. Marijuana kills none and causes few social problems.

Marijuana was originally outlawed because of racial prejudice against mexicans and the fear that heroin addiction would lead to the use of marijuana -- exactly the opposite of the modern gateway myth. You can find a good short history of the laws at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/History/whiteb1.htm

Every major study of the marijuana laws has said that the marijuana laws were based on ignorance and nonsense and should have been repealed long ago because they do more harm than good.

You can find thousands of documents detailing the history, health effects, and everything else at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer

Like you I have a friend who smokes pot from time to time. Her health is poor and she says it helps her to stay off the painkillers. I have never smoked myself and don't really have an opinion about it. I see that it helps her but others may smoke too much or start with pot and go on to harder drugs. I don't buy into the argument that cigarettes are legal. They are bad for you too, but why make more things like that legal instead of trying to make people not use harmful substances?

Tell your friend not to smoke around you (in case she gets busted while you are with her) and enjoy your friendship with her. Don't judge her or tell her what to do. She can make up her own mind.

Let us say they legalize it! Who will hire them? Most companies today do random drug testing. You would be fired or never get hired with drugs in your system. That will not change even if they legalized it. Why would a company hire someone that could harm another employee while high? How much extra would a company have to pay in insurance to allow these pot heads to work? I sure wouldn't hire you, and would fire you if you were at my job high or with drugs in your system!

I think you already know and are pushing to see how others feel. Gambling, cigarettes, alcohol, all legalized and taxed are all more harmful then a seed that grows into a medicinal plant, meaning it is medicine. However this Govt, makes more money getting it into our country, like every other drug, when they sell it then bust the distributor and the user. Some day it will have bright lights shown upon it. Trust...

I agree with your friend, sort of.

Marijuana is little different than alcohol, except that it is illegal. We tried banning alcohol, and got lots of crime and ordinary people being made into criminals. We learned our lesson and repealed prohibition.

Yet today we are doing essentially the same thing with Marijuana. We've got gangs and organized crime thriving and people being made into criminals, all because they want to use a drug that's no worse than alcohol.

If we legalize it, we can get all the criminal elements out of the picture, plus we can sell it like alcohol in stores that sell alcohol, while regulating it and taxing it. Those taxes can be used to fund drug treatment for anyone that wants it. We can even use the same laws regarding drunk driving or public intoxication to deal with the negative consequences.

It should not be illegal. People can handle it they're adults, and it is far less dangerous than alcohol or many over the counter drugs.

Also it will free up billions in enforcement money to go after drugs that are a real problem such as Methanhpetimine and crack cocaine.

I just hope it's legal in the US when I retire.

tell her the problems she can get brain cancers and lung and other cancers. She can also go to jail even when you think that a law is stupid and you dont fallow it it is still rude. It is like going threw a red light you think you can go threw it but your still going to get in troble for it the law is the law
you shouldnt be hanging a round with a bad influence any way if it was my friend i would tell her to stop and if she didnt i would get her in troble because i believe if you make the law you should get what you deserve i dont believe in second chances.

Drugs ruined my life. I started smoking pot, then it lead to other stuff, like heroin. Now I only have one foot and can't find a job. Yeah, it starts with "lesser" drugs but it will lead to worse things.

I don't believe in using cannabis, because I know from experience it can waste your life. It takes away your motivation, your drive to succeed, it takes away your ability to keep your mind sharp, and your ability to learn. It also destroys your mental and physical health.

I don't believe it is neccecary to take a substance in order for you to relax, you should just be able to relax without any help.

I don't think it should be legal, but it seems that if it were legal, it would be controlled better, and there wouldn't be as much of a drug underworld as there is now in America, which brings in other elements, like murder, prostitution, theft, and homelessness.

I have seen the path that people take with substance abuse, it starts out small, and next thing you know, they are on the streets.
