Peace and war are two different things, but one can lead to the other - before a war and after it are peace; however, someone ends up with some sort of problem or just gets bored with peace, then another war starts up. No one thing alone can solve anything - there has to be balance in the universe. Peace alone leads only to an empty road, yet when combined with other positive forces (freedom, knowledge, etc.), it becomes part of a solution. Everyone's balance is different (individuality - another of those positive forces), as is that of the universe. Can it be helped if some don't want peace while others want ONLY peace?

I think that in order to have the right KIND of peace, we will sometimes need war to achieve it. Consider the end times. There will be a holy war, and then there will be complete peace.
Peace, to me, is not simply sitting down, reading intellectual stuff while my belly increases. Personally, it would make me anxious.
We need the right KIND of peace. This kind cannot be found by man, despite what his efforts are. Jesus Christ alone can give one the supreme peace, but only when we submit to him and his will. That is our problem. Our will is in the way. God's is pushed of to the side, reserved for plan B, when it really should be plan A.

Your question amused me because it sounds like: "We fight for peace !". Your wish to stop humanity to play God is wonder full and it could become your "war for peace".
On the other hand we still may "end up fat and lazy", when we don't gain enough intelligence to be able to control ourselves ("to be in the midst of the two, not in one or other").

You view the world in two dimensions. Apathy and struggle. And you equate struggle with agression. Therein lies your problem, your philosophical knot, if you will. You are, in fact, stating that without violence, we would live in a perfect world, and that such a world would be boring. And you show, in fact, fear of a greater violence still, when you say 'nature will strike back' - you are emphatically stating that a state of peace would be so intolerable we would feel the need to annihilate ourselves just to release us from our sense of uselessness. In other words, war is a thrill we can not do without.
I would agree with you that the complete elimination of all violence is probably impossible. If a serial killer is on the loose, we can't simply let him be.
However, war remains an affront to the dignity of man. It is a denial of reason and dialog. It should be avoided whenever possible. It does not follow from an abandonment of the idea of violence, that we abandon creativity. If anything, the idea that violence is our only creative outlet shows an apalling lack of creativity and imagination. Arts, sciences, love, the raising of families, spiritual union are some examples of endeavours man can entertain to live a creative life, one that is not limited to the bland idea of simple survival.
I doubt a state of peace will happen in my lifetime, or even that of my grandchildren, but this is the kind of struggle I am interested in undertaking - not some silly pointless show of strength that exterminates human potentialities in a second, for no real good reason but to alleviate our depression in a state of faithlessness.

Most likely we will never have peace in this world in our lifetimes because all of us will naturally conflict due to our different views/perceptions of the world because of the way we all grew up differently.
There are many kinds of peace in this world, not just war free. So really the perception of peace is in the eye of the beholder.
Living in a 100% peace world seems almost boring to many humans because unfortunetly many of us are attracted and excited to watching others engage in conflict (i.e. school fights, boxing matches, etc)
Because we are humans, we are imperfect like any other animal. Sometimes we must have confict in order to survive so we can learn from our mistakes for the better. in this world, we have to struggle to survive. Nothing in life is truly free, not even time.

i believe there is no Peace. With Peace, we become unsettled, and want more than we really want.
And look at the world! The world alone is beyond repair. We cannot possibly stop deaths. Our only hope is for a miracle.

Any desire for any singular idea or thought certainly be construed as a war. Indeed battles are required to achieve any desired outcome. Perhaps some ideas are worth the effort..... Just a thought...... Peace...........

Peace need not be an excuse for laziness. Peace can give one the opportunity to pursue goals and recreate the mind. Your philosophy is flawed inasmuch as it assumes we need war to keep us mentally stimulated. We don't.
