depends. watching the 5 pm news I'd say bad news attracts more attention but I agree with the first response too, since jesus was the first piece of history that came to mind.yet had he not been faced with so much adversity and tragic events , we may not have remembered him so well.

Methinks it depends on the nature. Fame is something you've done that made an impact in lives, as the same in Infamy. Now in most cases(I think) It involves the sheer brutality that brings infamy. Hitler comes to mind or Nero if you know Roman history. (Oh. The younger gen didn't even remember or know about Pearl Harbor until the movie came out. Doh!) When I think of fame, People like Henry Ford, Einstein, Alexander Bell, ect..
(Somebody beat me to J.C. Kudos to you! ) come across my head. They have fame because of the things they did that we still have today. (IE: The automobile, The phone, The Bible, the H-Bomb...)
=) < So Fame lasts longer than Infamy.

I would think infamy because fame, like beauty, is fleeting. You can become a has been as a live person if you are not keeping up with the times and alternating with the changing times. But when you are only known for one thing or one song, or one saying, that person is someone who will be forgotten but the that "one" thing will be remembered.
I think people want to be remembered for what they did not how what they did made them.

Good question. Most of us over the remember the bombing of Pearl Harbor (from textbooks anyway) and most of us remember that FDR was President at the time. One infamous event and one famous person; both from the same era. So you tell me which lasts longer.

Well the whole world knows that Jesus was Jesus of Nazareth where as not many people know which Caesar ordered his death, so Fame must last longer

Another example is the guy who killed John Lennon. He thought that by killing him, he would forever be remembered in relation to the Beatles. Anybody remember his name or know what prison he is rotting in? I don't.
