The case study is the summary of actual facts of any story. If you have an operation, the doctor doing the operating, looks at your file to study the case. So now you become the case study. Each doctor you see must see your file, or "case study".

1. Factual - when did he live, and where and other facts.
2. What actually was the name is his disease?
3. What treatment did they give him?
4. Where did he die?

GOD bless us one and all, always.
5. Did he

A case study is when a workgroup or individual selects any case in the particular are of study that your in and reads it over and over again so as to analyze it inside and out. The workgroup looks at and tears apart every part of the case. It could be an aviation accident, a train derailment, a fire, a gas leak in the heart of downtown, etc, etc. This then becomes the case. You and your fellow investigators study it so thoroughly that they become the expert in this case. Then, if it is a court case this group or individual becomes the subject matter expert and can explain or testify to the case and possibly how it happened, or what caused the case to happen, etc. If the case is a medical study, you not only study the physicians reference manual but you add on top of that all the things that you find while you study the case that you are involved with. This is basically what a case study is. I'm sure you might have already been on one in school; and not even realized it.

A case study is not qualitative research, as is often confused by laymen. It is a research strategy, to be likened to an experiment, a history, or a simulation and not linked to any particular type of evidence or method of data collection (Yin 2003).

Rather than using large samples and following a rigid protocol to examine a limited number of variables, case study methods involve an in-depth, longitudinal examination of a single instance or event: a case. They provide a systematic way of looking at events, collecting data, analyzing information, and reporting the results. As a result the researcher may gain a sharpened understanding of why the instance happened as it did, and what might become important to look at more extensively in future research. Case studies lend themselves to both generating and testing hypotheses (Flyvbjerg, 2006).

Yin, on the other hand, suggests that case study should be defined as a research strategy, an empirical inquiry that investigates a phenomenon within its real-life context. Case study research means single- and multiple case studies, can include quantitative evidence, relies on multiple sources of evidence and benefits from the prior development of theoretical propositions. He notes that case studies should not be confused with qualitative research and points out that they can be based on any mix of quantitative and qualitative evidence (Yin, 2002). This is also supported and well-formulated in (Lamnek, 2005): "The case study is a research approach, situated between concrete data taking technique and methodologic paradigma".

It is a common word in universities and particularly in business school. A case study generally means a brief background of a case (story in your situation) and then an analysis of it - why did certain things happen, why did the characters behave the way they did, what can be concluded, etc.

I think it would be fair to ask for a specific list of things they want answered. People really need to stop being so "cryptic" and explain what it is they want. A case study may mean different things to people, but I agree that it would include basic elements and how they are related to each other.

Hi,
A case study is an inquiry into an event by either an individual or an organization. It is produced through systematic research, analysis and reporting. Case studies cite professional or scientific sources and they are often used in developing new procedures in marketing, medicine and technology. They are designed to ask the questions "how" and "why" of an event, procedure or phenomena. If you are about to begin a case study, it is important that you devote plenty of time to accurate data gathering and analysis. Case studies can take place over a few weeks to a few years.
