As you may know most of the population are of Muslim faith.
Egypt is a moderate Islamic country, so a lot do enjoy a festive time at Chistmas.
I am not to sure that many would go as far as putting the sockings up,that is a "cold Climate" tradition not even done to much here in Australia. Pine trees are very very scarce in Egypt so that is not done.Other decorations, lights and gift giving are practiced by some.
Egypt also has a Coptic Christian population especially in Cairo. For who Christmas ,Easter etc. are very important.
The Copts are the oldest of Christian Churches and proberly the one most near what the people who came just after Jesus, the first Christian would have believed in.
The Coptic faith has remained virtually unchanged since it began.
Did you know that Egypt was one of the first countries to embrace Christianity as a religion?
When the Romans invaded they were not Christian and destroyed the Christian temples that had been built in Egypt.
The Christians took refuge in the old Pharonic temples. Today, you can still see their crosses carved over Pharonic heiroglyphs.
There are a small number of Jews also in Egypt.
As well, a lot of Western Christians live and work in Egypt.
As you can imagine, Christmas is special when you are so far from home.
Hope this is a bit of help and Merry Christmas.

I just came back from Egypt and even though it is a muslim nation I saw a lot of Christmas trees up. I worked in some villages but the people don't buy gifts they don't even get birthday gifts there. Egypt has a few modern areas where some people might practice giving gifts. My last trip into upper Egypt they hadn't even seen wrapping paper before. Many of the kids don't know how to play with toys. But they do know what to do with soccer balls.
The average income in Egypt is no more than $1,500 a year. I met teachers who make $2.00 a day.

Egyptian here.
The majority of Egyptians celebrate this occasion by going out in the streets and having fun. Mostly we share the joy with the rest of the world but there is nothing special that we do. Personally I like going out on that day and be in the streets where I can see lots of Christian brothers and sisters happy and celebrating. This makes me happy too. I also like to watch T.V on that day because there is always a good movie for this occasion.
Here is a similar question to this one that was answered by one of the Egyptians here. Her nickname is "Donia F". You can read the answer and maybe contact her if u want to.

Most of people in Egypt are muslims, so majority do not celebrate Christmas... In most countries Christmas is a religious celebration related to birth of Jesus, Santa Claus and his stockings are other kind of commercial celebration (that some of us love it, of course!)
94% Islam, 6% Christian, according to some statistics in Internet..

As the majority of Egyptians are Muslim, they don't celebrate Christmas, and so they don't give gifts either. I think anything you will give would be appreciated thus.
