Okay, I'm currently a freshman, and I've learned a ton since my first day of high school, and I'll be glad to share it with you. My first day was going through all my classes. Whether you do this or not depends on the way your school works. I met all my teachers and just got a feel for being in a bigger building and having several different teachers. Also, the Honors classes are challenging! Only take them if YOU feel that you can handle it -- you'll definitely need perseverance and determination to do well in that class.
First off, don't stress out if you feel like you're not doing well. The transition from middle to high school is SUPPOSED to be a HUGE one. No one said it would be easy. You've just gotta be persistent. There are different expectations, and usually they are a lot higher than those placed on you in middle school. You've just got to allow yourself time to fully adapt to the school, so you can enjoy everything that's available to you to the best of your ability from your first year of high school.
Next, if it seems like you're the only one who's struggling, don't worry! A lot of people are struggling, some just don't convey it. It's a huge change for everyone, regardless of how much you've been told about it or how much you know about it or any other kind of knowledge like that. Nothing can prepare you 100% for the challenges you'll face -- the strength will come as you encounter these challenges and overcome them.
Last, if you really feel like you're struggling, or if you need to talk with someone, go and JUST DO IT. Talking helps enormously -- I can't tell you how great it feels to let it all out to someone who cares. It's just an amazing feeling, knowing that you're being listened to by someone who cares about you, so don't deprive yourself of that. Only God is perfect without help, the rest of us shouldn't feel ANY shame at all in asking for help.
One more thing, I think you just need to maintain a positive outlook and just hang in there when things get tough. Two quotes from amazing teachers you should remember:
"If you have a challenge, deal with it, learn from it, grow stronger for it, and move on..." -- Mr. S
"Anyone can be negative, that's easy. But it takes effort to be positive." -- Mr. P
I wish you all the best.

Hey Gayane P,
It's natural to be nervous. Don't be worried. Sure we'll tell you all of the horror stories like stuffing 9th graders into lockers. But most of that is not true. It's all a joke. I'm a 12th grader, a senior right now. We all remember what it's like being scared. Most of us will be nice and help you out. As the year goes on, join some clubs to get to know people in your grade and other grades. You'll make friends that way. Personally, my first day was fine. It helped that my sister was a junior at that time but everyone was nervous in my grade. We stuck together and helped each other out. We attended all our classes and heard about what was planned for the year. Be yourself. Smile and make some friends. You are starting a new adventure. Be confident as no matter what happens life will go on. Sometimes I wish I was a freshman again so I could experience all that I've experienced again. Good luck. You can do it. :D And happy holidays!

It is natural to be nervous. For me it was years ago. I do remember being nervous because there were many people I didn't know and I was so shy. It was going to be a change and it was scary having to meet new friends and find the classrooms and meet new teachers. A bit overwhelming to say the least.
Now 20 years later, I don't remember much as it didn't matter. You meet new kids and make new friends, plus you have your old friends around. They are all just as nervous as you.
Remember to keep your head up and smile. There will be those out there who will challenge you and not be so nice, but remember you are a special person and they are no better than you. Smile at them and wish them a good day. Your contagious smile will wear them down and they will want to be your friend and get to know you and see what makes you smile.
Focus on your studies and do the best and be the best you can be and you will be fine. Don't forget who your true friends are. God has angels watching over you as you enter these lovely years of high school. Have a Merry
Christmas.

When i was a freshman in high school, on the first day.. i was not nervous as in the summer, the school i went to did something like go to the school for 1-2 days to visit, tour around the school and sit in a classroom. You would be fine on the first day of high school. You might even make new friends on the first day.

It really depends if its a good high school or not. If you lay low and dont make it obvious that your a freshman than you will do fine. It really is alot more fun than middle school. Im a sophomore now and the freshman this year arent given us much of a problem. People just make high school sound worse than it actually is so you shouldnt worry.

omg. i am a freshman now. i love it now. my first day was hectic cuz there are all these people that are gonna walk like turtles and others kept pushing you. and you will probably get lost. but trust me, it gets better. the teacher make it really easy for you to adjust. i for one loved all my teachers excpet my spanish teacher becuase she is annoying. anyways, you will be stressed out ur first day especially if you never had a locker with a real lock and it is your first time opening a combo. i love it and you will too. relax and chill. and just enjoy the fact you are a senior in your school right now.

I think High school is the time in your life to start figuring out who you really are. Stay true to your own ideals, values, morals, & be open to new things too.

usually it's pretty exciting. Most of the hazing rituals are just urban legends/rumors. And I had just moved and was at a new HS where I knew nobody, and no one bothered me.
