I am that age and I would like my children to give some of their time. Give me a coupon for a day with them- hanging out, baking , watching movies, wash my car...I would LOVE that!!

At 48 your mom has probably received many presents over the years, but also probably misses the sweet hand made presents of her children. It might be best to write her a letter. Remind her of the best memories you had as a child and a young person where she was involved. Even the falls off a bike or out of a tree and how she made you feel better.....how she made you feel special........ You could put this letter in a simple pretty metal or colorful paper box. You could give her many other really nice things she could use during the year, but to remind her of who she is to you....is the best present! We moms sometimes miss being the mom of a child at Christmas.

Whatever you do DONT get them something that makes them feel old! They r only 48! I just turned 41- GOD forbid-but feel 25! Get them each a wicker basket filled with scented bubble baths, scented lotions, scented candles a nice pair of jammies and throw in some of those big ol fuzzy slippers! They will love it ! All women of any age love candle lit bubble baths! We look forward to it at the end of the day! The fuzzy winnie the pooh slippers will make them feel young at heart- I wear mine alllll the time!

I agree--find out what she likes and go from there. Not all 48-year-old women like the same things.
Here are some ideas:
Gourmet cocoa
Chocolate spoons (You can get these in the gift-food section in Target or Walmart--you stir them in your coffee.)
Chocolate covered marshmallows
A pair of new gloves or mittens
silver hoop earrings
a book of Sudoku puzzles, if that's her type of thing
a calendar representing one of her interests
a copy of a movie you both enjoy, with a promise to sit down and watch it with her one afternoon. (You can buy some microwave popcorn to go with it.)

A gift card for a day at the Spa would be very relaxing and beneifical for any woman! She could get a massage, a facial, manicure & pedicure, the works!
Good luck!

It depends on whether she is a person who likes practical gifts or stuff she would like but would never buy on her own. Some people like events tickets -- does she like to do things more than have things? Maybe she'd like some time with you -- what about a restaurant gift card and movie tickets -- something you can do together.

Does she have a new toy that needs accessories. I am always glad to get iPod gift cards, dvds and cd's of my favorite bands. If she's been to a concert recently, you could get the playlist & burn a cd of the music played so she can relive the concert.

My mom is about the same age, and she always appreciates something useful. Find out what she needs, that she would also like.
If all else fails, turn to candles or jewelry. Moms always like that! =)
