My best friend is "Andrea". She moved to my hometown when we were in third grade, and initially we weren't friends. She was popular and I was a little geeky, so we didn't mix with the same people. Because we had a couple of mutual friends, we found that we were at a lot of the same parties, and eventually we became good friends.
When we were in 7th grade, Andrea's sister began using drugs. Coming from an upper-middle class, suburban family, this was very unexpected, and Andrea was treated badly by her other friends at school. We began to spend more time together and she appreciated that I was there for her regardless of what was going on at home. Unfortunately, at my home, my mother was dying and I hadn't been able to tell anyone other than Andrea. We were dependant on one another, and neither of us ever let the other down.
During high school, we got to be so close that we spent EVERY day together. We finished each other's sentences, shared clothes, and even looked alike. Sure, we fought from time to time, but we loved each other so deeply that we couldn't hurt the other's feelings. We both felt that we were meant to be sisters, and treated each other accordingly.
After high school, we went to separate colleges. The funny thing was that we never discussed attending the same school, but when the day came for me to leave, it was the hardest goodbye I ever had to give. We talked to each other every day for the first couple of months, and then our conversations began to taper off. First a week would go by, then a month, and by my junior year, we hadn't spoken in a year and a half.
As I was driving home to visit my father one weekend, I got a phone call that Andrea had been in a serious jetski accident while attending a family reunion. She was hit in the back of the head with another jetski, and she had broken 4 ribs, her leg, crushed one shoulder, knocked out several of her teeth, and fractured her neck and was in immediate need of a craniotomy to release the pressure form blood that had built up in her brain.
The call was from Andrea's mother, who said that as they wheeled her into the OR, she was mumbling a series of numbers over and over. After listening a few times, she knew that Andrea was reciting my phone number.
She recovered, thankfully, and things went back to they way they were before. We don't take each other for granted because we know that life is precious and there is no time for things to go unsaid. Since that day, we have both married, and we served as Maids of Honor for each other. Our conversations are not as frequent as they once were, but the beauty of our friendship is that we don't need to talk everyday. We share in each other's lives during the high and low points.
She truly is my sister and I love her dearly.

My best friend is Amanda! We have been friends for five years now! We get along so well cause we both have the same attitude towards things, we can be our selves around each other, and we can talk about anything together! We have had really hard times and we have always stood close to each other during those rough times! She is pretty much like a sister to me!

My best friends are my two flatmates. We were at school together and all went to the same uni. Now we all work different jobs and still live together.
An example of what makes them my best friends is the way they stood by me recently. I moved out, leaving them in the lurch and left Edinburgh to move in with my then girlfriend. They'd never liked her, but had not interfered as I was happy. A year later she left me taking most of my finances and leaving me in the lurch. My flatmates converted their lounge to a bedroom for me, collected all my stuff and moved it down (as I was working offshore at the time) and didn't charge me rent or costs until I was back on my feet. What makes them my best friends is they did all this without being asked, without expecting a thankyou and without once saying I told you so.
That is friendship.

My best friend is Piper and Samantha because they are sooo nice and always think of me. They never try to bring any one down and always cheer me up. Samantha though would have to be the funny one every single day giving me something to laugh about! Piper is ever sooo clever;helping and caring for me all through the way. They are both the best to hang out with even on the hardest of nights. No one could resist the charms and potential of my friends. They would never push and one around!

To be a best friend requires trust in each other. Confidentiality is extremely important as well. My best friend and I hold a mutual respect, without judgements, only suggestions. I will say it has taken years for the relationship to foster to this point and it only takes one poor act to destroy all that is earned between us.
When the chips were down in his life, I was there and glad to be...and the same was done for me...

I am my own best friend first; my husband comes in a very close second. We were friends for a long time because of mutual understandings and acceptances.

My first best friend is someone I have known for almost 13 years. we are friends because after all that I have ever done or she has done we are able to forgive and that makes our friendship so strong. If you can not TRULY forgive someone for something they have done, well I do not think you are that good of friends.
