Please vote thumbs down if you would rather be a programmed cog in machine whose sole purpose is to elevate others OR

vote thumbs UP if you value your freedom much more than the illusory "security" being offered by our government.

okay. Vote Thumbs UP if you think that Invasion of Privacy on LAW ABIDING citizens with no previous criminal record is an Infringement upon your Freedom.
Vote THUMBS DOWN if you think that it's okay because if you aren't doing anything wrong, then why worry about government compiling information about you to be used later against you in the event you do get busted for something minor and you happen to be a VOCAL dissident against that government.

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety"
-Benjamin Franklin

And to think, this guy got elected because Rove figured out that there are 30Million evangelical christians that will vote for anyone who's against abortion and wants to restrict gay people's rights.

I love how people tackle this question while all democracies have given up rights (I don't mean anything towards previous answerers), while its quite simple. Benjamin Franklin, someone who has more wisdom in his pinkie then i do said it best, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty or safety..." Also a contemporary of the time had the same feeling by the name of Rousseau “I prefer liberty with danger than peace with slavery.”

Clearly this two individuals have more merit then I do and the people saying that democracies throughout history have to give up liberty.

It is never a good idea to give up freedom for security. However, some people have no idea what freedom is, and claim it is being given up, when it is not. For example: the PATRIOT act allows the government to see what books you read. That is in no way giving up your freedom. You can still read any book you want, you can still write any book you want, you are completely free to do whatever you want. All you are giving up is some privacy, which is not the same as freedom. We should not give up our privacy easily, but some times it is necessary for our protection.

It is _never_ appropriate to give up freedom for security.

Keep in mind that people get the kind of government that they deserve.

In every modern democracy going back to the Roman Empire, freedoms have been reduced in times of national crisis. The problem comes in, because you do not see terrorism and Radical Islam as a threat that condones a time of crisis.

Once we give up our freedom, it would be not easy to get back. My freedom is more important to me. Live free or die.

Nice loaded question.

Speaking of loaded questions...

You value your freedom even if it means other people could lose theirs or get hurt or killed? Selfish.
