not that I would recommend doing it... but simply heat the can to above 150 F or so...
Keep in mind that when the can bursts, the propellant in the can will ignite very rapidly... into a fairly large fireball. Depending on how the can bursts, it could also result in a fracture in the can which will cause a "flamethrower" like effect...
If you decide to try it... don't stand within 15 feet while it is heating up...

I worked for Factory Mutual, which has a lab in RI built for testing the risk that stored materials in warehouses presented to both the customer and the insurance industry.
Some years ago they placed a stack of hairspray in a 4^3 pallet arangement in a metal building suited for testing such stuff and set it on fire.
The explosion blew the walls off the building and the surrounding towns thought there was an earthquake.
This resulted in some drastic reformulation of the aerosol propellant used in future hairspray. It's still volatile, but nothing like it was back then.

You cant just use a lighter or matches, alone. You cannot hold the can while you try to heat it. You have to make a small fire, hot enough to keep itself going, and add alot of fuel to it at once (like shredded newspaper, dried grass, wood chips. Soak them all in lighter fluid if you can), then toss the can in the center so that it doesnt roll or bounce out.
People I know used to do that with CO2 cans, the kind used for paintball guns. Made a nice fireball about 6' high and about that diameter.

(Chuckle) Finally a useful question with a practical application!! Basically what you do is make a fuse with rolled up cloth or paper towels and attach it to the can with glue or tape. Then the can must be thrown with great force onto a hard surface like cement or pavement. I believe you can find out more on how to make a hairspray can bomb by accessing many international terrorists websites which I will not do due to my Pansy-like fear of the federal government and paranoid delusions.

Use the matches to light a fire. Then throw the can in the fire.
Be sure you stand well back and this is not recommended for children, those of a nervous disposition or anyone who thinks the nanny state should prohibit such activities.
I'm serious about the children, ask an adult to show you a safe way to make explosions

When I was ten I burnt my brothers eyebrows off with a match and a can of hair spray. He deserved it. >:) Just toss it in a fire. I have done this with an extra large can of ether starter fluid ... ten times more explosive than hair spray. Made quite a mushroom cloud.

It won't explode. Little tip: When I travel I pack all my tolietries and anything that could leak into storage bags. That way when something leaks it's all over the inside of the bag and not my clothes.

press the button and let a little drip out on to the outside of the can using the matches/lighter light this trail on fire - do not hold on to the can after this point - the flame will zip up the trail and into the can and it will explode

The lighter should do the trick- it was on myth-busters once. That or leave it in the car a long heated time. But the lighter on and hair spray through it should make a pretty descent BOOM. Good luck, mad scientist in the making

Wrap the can tightly in duct tape. Top, bottom, sides. Throw in in an extremely hot fire. For you want the hairspray to vaporize and create internal pressure. The duct tape will keep the can a bit more stable. Also remember the fire must be extremely hot. For the liquid must vaporize prior to the duct tape burning away. One more thing-------Get back 100'
