Any other side comics I should read? Is the prelude important?
Note: Please don't spoil any of the story for me.

you may want to pick up the New Excalibur issues as well. That chris claremont was doing too as well since wanda was in it. and it showed the major chose of why she did what she did. befor house of M started.
Besides that what the other's above me mentioned is correct. though I won't spoil it for you. You might be dissappoint with the end in the tie in's of the other title issue's of House of M. like Spider man. cause marvel jumped to fast into t nother major cross over. so the ramification were short lived.

Though not required reading you might want to pick up Astonishing X-Men or New Avengers.
I actually started reading Marvel comics after I finished House of M so it's a really good jumping point. If you have any questions about the characters, go to Wikipedia and they'll answer any questions you have.

read avengers dissasembled. Thor dissasembled (one of the best comic stories ever).

REAd "avengers: disassembled" you will know who wanda killed. Read some wikipedia articles about it they have great stuff.
