If you are near the outskirts, it is probably quicker to take the M25 exit from the M11 near stanstead and go round the outside - much will depend on what time you leave.
The M11 is a two lane motorway - be careful, it's a bit notorious for drivers losing patience and bunching up too close to one another in the outside lane - on a trip three weeks ago I witnessed THREE pile ups within forty miles - take care and you will be fine!
