I understand what happened at the end when Christine chose Raoul over the Phantom, but what happened when they fast forward into the future?
Honestly, they could have made a better ending for that movie.

The story is being told when Raoul is an old man. Christine had told him about the music box once, so when the opera is closing down, he goes to the auction and buys the music box. Then he goes to her grave, and the phantom has been there as well, signified by the rose. It does seem awkward on film, but it works on stage, and the film was staying with the play.

Raoul went to the Opera House to buy the music box. He goes to a cemetary and we learn the Christine had died within the year. He leaves the box at her grave to see a red rose with the Phantom's crest on a ribbon. The Phantom was still alive and also mourning her.

Well, it looks like Raoul marries Christine. The Phantom still lingers in Christine's heart. I think she has a child and then dies. The child is a girl and the Phantom fall in love with her. The same thing happends to Christine's daughter as it did to Cristine.

Rual had bought a music box in the beginning of the movie. He then went to Christine's grave to set the music box on it and there was a rose from the Phantom of The Opera......FYI: I had to think about that for a while cuz I didn't know what the end meant until i watched it for probably the third time. I also agree they should have made a better ending that summed up the storyline better but the movie itself is unbelievebly awesome!!! :)

Christine agrees to marry the phantom to save her bf's life. So, she kisses the phantom on the forehead to seal the pact. But, the phantom was so astonished that she would kiss him when even his own mother wouldn't give him a kiss, that he released Christine from her pact and let her leave with her bf. Since then, Christine and her bf have disappeared to another country and the phantom was never seen in the opera again.

Oh I loovvvveee the ending. It's kinda like...well...it lets you know the Phantom is still there - but that he hasn't given Christine and Rauol the trouble they were expecting...but he still loves Christine, always has...always will.
