They were glamorous days.. now people just care less. I wish I was around then or that it would be like that again. People used to dress up to go places, it's sad why it's not like that.

I find it interesting the people's remarks that the '50's weren't glamorous. They were! I think they are looking at the socio-economics of that period, while the subject here is a reflection of days gone past compared to the days of today. When you think of it then, it sure was much more glamorous!

Granted, I was a mere child, but I recall that people dressed up when they went out and you wore gloves and hats to church (only a few do today). Church was taken seriously then and you didn't dare wear jeans to church! The men wore suits! The men were polite - chivalry was not dead. The hairstyles and the clothes were something people worked at. Today, too many just let it "sag and bag."

The 1950s weren't exactly glamorous as they were an emergence of style and color that has lived through the decades.

I remember watching Elvis perform on the Ed Sullivan Show and the horror witnessed at his gyrations that eventually shot him to stardom.

We were a poorer, yet religious nation that lived under the threat of nuclear war with the Soviets. Had we known then what we know now we would have had fewer worries.

Ducktail (DAs) haircuts, leather jackets with upturned collars, and the cigarette dangling from the side of the mouth was common, but so too was a better dress code used by the adults, and even the teens in public places.

This elaboration is just a small piece of the pie that we lived in during the 1950s. America was growing stronger and kept her values and integrity.

Glamorous? Did you live through the 50s? Sure, people dressed up to go out and go to Church, but to actually live in the 50s (and I was a child then) ...

www.retro-housewife.com is dedicated to women (and men) who want to bring back some of the qualities of the decades lng past. Check out their 50's section. This is not an anitfeminist site. I would be the first person to say women should be allowed to have jobs, but one job they are best at is raising their children. They have had thousands of years of practice. This site promotes the best values of the last hundred years. Focusing the most on the time where the US flourished, economically and domestically(this era does include the 50's)

If you think that the 1950s were glamorous, you must not have been around back then. Don't believe everything you see in the movies or on TV. Life wasn't quite like that.

It would be cool if men wore hats like they did back then. You can still dress up to go places. Make your own style.
