Never any less than 20% for good service, and more where it applies. If you're trying to save $ stay at home or go to McDonalds, otherwise feel free to dine out and tip generously for great food service. Servers and bartenders have to put up with some of the snobbiest and most arrogant people our society has to offer, in addition to that restaurants pay $2-3hr, they live off of tips. If you plan to be a repeat customer good tips, means great service, comps on desert and drinks in the future etc. What goes around comes right back.

E. Depends on how good the service was. If the waiter/waitress was attentive, courteous, and punctual, then it's towards the 20% range. If the service was bad, then maybe even lower than the 15%. You can't hold things like the quality or temp of food against them, though.

I will always leave 20% unless I need to teach the waiter/waitress some rules on how to do his or her job better and the way they did it wasn't it! Then they get what they deserve crap! I have left a penny once or twice to people who really needed to learn not to treat the customer like crap!

if it is a really nice resturant you should tip a minimum of 20% and if you got really good service put some more in there.
