Absolutely not! Social Studies, from my point of view, is the most interesting subject in school. A person gets to see where he comes from, and why things are the way they are today and how they got to be that way. It doesn't matter if you're studying Ancient Civilizations or the history of your own country you will find your roots in there. You see how much things have changed, and how some things really haven't changed at all. You might have to put a little imagination into it. Picture it in your mind. Make a story out of it. A good social studies teacher can take the facts and make a story out of it that sounds quite interesting. There are the notes that go along with the classes, and unfortunately that's a necessary evil. However, the stories behind the people that shaped our world and country are very interesting.
Glurpy should've paid more attention in social studies class. She would've gotten a whole lot more out of it!

If you were to ask me that as a 7th grader, I would've answered yes immediately. Now, however, being a freshman in high school, and having been blessed enough to have the best social studies teacher EVER, my answer would be absolutely NOT. Social studies is more than dates, facts, and names. There is thinking and feelings and beliefs and opinions behind the history of it all. You just need to look closely -- what happened in the past occurred because of the actions people made. When you look at it from that perspective, it's a lot more interesting. Social studies is more than just facts, dates, and names -- it's how cultures are created, the reasons behind actions, how a person's feelings can affect the fate of the country, even the world, and just how people, or one person alone, can make a difference.

Depends on the curriculum - states and capitals or coloring maps, yeah boring.
Learning the traditional folklore and dress - yeah boring.
understanding how countries with arranged marraiges have lower divorce rates or closer knit families - or why Mass transit makes sense in some cities but not in others - or what are the benefits and downfalls of government based healthcare, and business subsidies. All these social studies are very interesting and impact real people in big way both in the past and into the future.
Social studies is not just figuring out that other people are different - but figuring out what ideas we should borrow and improve on, and what mistakes we can learn from. Probably the most useful street knowlege you can have.

I have to admit, when I was going through school, I hated social studies because it seemed like we were constantly forced to memorize a bunch of dates that now I couldn't recall if my life depended on it. Now I'm very interested in history, and watching documentaries and reading historical fiction are some of my favorites! It's fun to learn about how the world was before I was in it.

I loved it. In terms of what's going on in the world, I found it most relevant. A lot of the times, it's like hearing a story.
What are the alternatives? Math? Useful, but can get dry and tedious. Science? Labs can be fun, but unless you like learning about all types of animals and plants and stuff, it can be boring as well. I could care less about the type of fungi or bacteria out there. English? Unless they assign a good book. I hated most of the books that were assigned at my schools.
It really all depends on a person's interest. Tons of people loved the stuff I didn't like about the other subjects.

I hated social studies in school. Although I found some of the stuff interesting, for the most part, it just seemed to be a jumble of information thrown together.
