Hi all,
I have been ticked off by a local game-keeper for driving around an the quad-bike, picking up fallen timber for the log fire.
The twit had the nerve to say, robustly, that it was not mine to collect. Oh yes it is, I spake.
I sang him that bit of "Good King Wenceslas"
He still ceased to be amused.
I doubt if he will have a Merry Christmas.
I also have a freind who lives next to the "Rufford Hotel" in Nottingham.
He removed the "L", making it the "Rufford Hote", and sent a Christmas card saying Happy Noel.
Well - no harm done !
Any similar episodes ?
Bob.

Sorry but unless you own the land and have permission to collect fire wood your are breaking the law! You are trespassing and stealing and may also be causing criminal damage with your quad.... How would you like it if someone walked onto your property and into your garden to pick your flowers or fruit from your trees? And also if this is an old English wood then the fallen rotting wood is part of its eco system where animals and plants/mosses grow and eventually fertilise the soil so our are damaging the environment too!!!

traditionally, firewood gathering was a right assigned by the owner of the land. Downed wood is actually an important part of the eco-system, and if he takes too much, he will hurt the land. The quad is probably not very good for the ecology either.
