Want to be able to locate planets and other star systems with easy and simplicity and looking out for free chart mapping programs that run on windows that will do the job.

I have come across a few but would like expert recommendations on something that has a neat interface and GUI to quickly chart the planets and other stuff.

Thanks

Hi, one of the best is called Cartes du Ciel, and is GPL. It can use multiple astronomical catalogues, print charts for any time or place. I would use it by choice. If you need a good Moon atlas AVL is written by the same people, and is probably the best around (I say this only from hear-say, I haven't used any others, apart from google moon, which is pretty cool), and beats most commercial programs. I use the software in a semi-professional manner due to its license, as I can publish the starcharts it produces.

Clear skies to you, and a Merry Christmas.

The one listed above is good but if you want by-the-minute sky chart for any day 1900-forever.
Go to www.heavens-above.com and find your city or town.
