I am 9 weeks pregnant and have been using Benzoyl Peroxide 5% gel everyday ... and even before i've gotten pregnant. I was wondering.. Is there anyone who used these products during pregnancy and the baby came out fine? I would like to know so if it harms my unborn baby, then i'm going to stop using it.

Benzoyl peroxide is 'pregnancy category' 'C.'

"Pregnancy Category C: Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted with benzoyl peroxide. It is also not known whether benzoyl peroxide can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproduction capacity. Benzoyl peroxide should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed."

You might want to talk to your doctor about a prescription for an azelaic acid (category B) gel for acne.

Opinions on anti-perspirants with aluminum compounds are pretty mixed. On one hand, they're not proven safe -- orally. And it is possible to absorb things through your skin. On the other, if they were causing problems, that'd be more than evident by now. Google "(the active ingredient in your anti-persipirant) pregnancy category" for a better idea of what's out there, and ask your doctor if genuinely concerned.

Benzoyl peroxide is not good to use because anything topical can leach into your bloodstream and affect an unborn baby. Anti-perspirants and deodorants are fine but not the other. To be on the safe side ask your OB/GYN.

No they dont harm the unborn. Theyre safe to use if theyre over the counter. all acne products over the counter are currently safe during pregnancy.

Prescription creams and pills however are incredibly bad. Theyre not the same things at all as what you get over the counter. They effect your body in different ways entirely. Thats why theyre unsafe.

Of course antipirsirant is safe. If it wasnt there would be an army of sick deformed babies born every day. Pregnant women sweat like holy begoosies, and you have to wear an antipirspirant.

I garuntee that deoderant is fine....as far as the benzoyl goes, it's topical so it should be fine too.

well, i know deodorants w/ antiperspirants are NEVER good for you, despite the lenient attitude most of America shows.... it's like our crime-rate and fast-food....you should probably stop using any antiperspirants.... they have aluminum in them, it's not good for your body, and the toxin you are trying to get ride of when you sweat juts go right back in a build up!!
