You own the Master Copy and the individual tracks, usually on Pro Tools, and add parts in when you go to the studio or on your home studio. This is called tracking and editing. Mixing is when you mix all of the tracks together to create a perfect sound by equalizing the frequencies and processing the audio.

Mix Engineers Mix the Albums by cutting and boosting frequencies, adjusting volume levels and processing the audio with time-based and dynamic processors.

Recording/Tracking Engineers lay the tracks down to a multitrack recorder and edit the actual composition of the music along with the producer.

Producers handle the aspects of the actual sound of the performance and most of the aspects of the business for the label with the A&R Executive.

DJ's do not mix audio. They simply play, scratch and sequence.

The term "mixing" means having two or more tracks play together at one time. One track may fade out as the other one comes in. For that, you need a mixer and two sources of audio, such as two turntables or two CD players.

If you mean "STOP A SONG AND ADD ANOTHER PART INTO IT" you are talking about mixing in production, where a pc with music editing software and a decent knowledge of an audio-editing program is necessary to perform what you are looking for.

DJs mix music live in front of crowds, whereas producers re-mix music in a studio. Hope this helps. Good luck!

It's very easy if you have the right software. Actually you can do that by yourself. There are some easy to use software which allow to cut, paste, add, fade, etc all what you want to change music file and create your own mix. For example:

1. Audio Editor (my favorite but only works on audio files)

2. Aurora Media Workshop (will do anything & everything you want and works on both audio & video files)

If you don't have any of those, you still can do alot of things by using windows built in software which is called "Windows Movie Maker" it also works on both audio and video.

There are a variety of programs to do this with. If you don't have a ton of money to throw away on something like Reason, Abelton Live or Pro Tools you can use a freeware program called Audacity. It can be a little counterintuitive sometimes but if you play around with it enough you can figure it out. There are tutorials online as well. Link to source at bottom.
