We are looking to buy a game as a christmas gift for a family that has kids of the ages of 5, 9 and 13. Any ideas?

I forgot to mention they already have: Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary, Scattergories and Cranium. I'm curious if anything is new this season.

Thanks for all the terrific suggestions. I can't decide which is the best so I will turn this over to a vote. Happy Holidays!

Try Chinese Checkers. It may be old, but it's fun!

The board games geek gift guide is a good source for suggestions. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to sort by what's new this season so you have to dig a bit. The only thing I'm sure are new on that page were Treehouse and Ingenious. The first one has some small pieces that could be a choking hazard. Don't know if that is still an issue at 5

Trying to cover all the family is a bit tricky. In my experience, anything not over the head of a 5 year old will bore a teenage to tears (ymmv). So I'm leaning towards Apples to Apples. It's been around, but if I remember you didn't list it as something they already have. Plus it's fun for all, even the Juniour edition looks like it could still be fun.

The discover games site I listed seems to have some interesting stuff, but I haven't played any of it and it doesn't seem to list how old/new anything is.

I like the Morning News recommendations.

Blokus: Trigon - http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/21550...

Good strategy game, but maybe not suitable for the 5y/o.

Not new, but well suited to that age range -
