One can only conceive while ovulating correct? What are the odds of conceiving a day after your period? Or the day your period ended? I was told I'm about 9 weeks pregnant (1st day of last period was Oct. 15)...I'm so excited...all this due date stuff is so confusing to me....I really don't get how they actual consider me 9 wks pregnant from the 1st day of my last period...it gets me.

They do it that way because that is the one date they are sure of. Because of the differences in women they can't be sure of the date of ovulation.

I know what you mean about the confusion. I'm 20 weeks pregnant, anf theoretically that's 5 months right. But it's only 4 1/2 months from my last period.

Go figure.

Even though you ovulate about 2 weeks after your period started, once you miss a period and have the pregnancy confirmed by the test, you're automatically considered 4 weeks pregnant. It doesn't really make sense, but they consider you pregnant from the last time they knew you weren't - i.e., the first day of your last period. So, even if you likely got pregnant 7 weeks ago, you're still conisdered 9 weeks pregnant, in medical terms.

tech you are 2 weeks pregnant by the time you ovulate (for the average woman). Gestational age is different then the weeks pregnant you are, it gets confusing.

according to the "pregnancy math" you are 9 weeks pregnant and the baby is 7 weeks gestational age.

So you're due July 22,2007 assuming you have a 28 day cycle.

The day you get your period is actually week one of your pregnancy, you conceive in week two, and when you finally miss your period, you are already one month pregnant! I know it's crazy but that's just how it works so trust it. Use websites like babyzone.com that have free pregnancy calendars to track how far along you are and keep you sane.
Good luck!

Doctors count pregnancy ("gestational age") from the first day of your last period. That's because there's no way to know exactly when you conceived, (since most people don't know exactly when they had intercourse that caused the pregnancy), and most people don't know exactly when they ovulated. Plus it can several days after intercourse for conception to occur, don't forget. So they go with what they know for sure: the first day of your last period.

So it's just how they count it, don't sweat it, just go with it. You'll get used to it.

here's a neat, free online pregnancy counter that tells you when you likely conceived, when your due date is, and when each trimester starts:
