I'm almost six weeks preg, and i would like to start an exercise regiment. I used to do Pilates regularly but I stopped about 2 months before pregnancy. Would it be dangerous to start again now? is there some other exercise program I could start?

Happy holidays to all

you could go back to Pilate's and any other exercise that you fell comfortable doing, but the best is just walking

I would think that Pilates would be a very good non-strenuous exercise. My wife continued hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing, etc. when pregnant and had no problems until she just didn't have the energy anymore in the later stages. Developing a baby takes lots of energy, especially later on in the pregnancy. But stretching, getting massages, and visiting the chiropractor regularly were very beneficial to her when she could no longer do much exercise and the weight of her belly and the displacement of her hips were really hindering her movements. Both of her pregnancies were very uncomfortable for her in the end, but if you feel fine, go ahead and exercise because you might not be able to later on. I know a of a local bicycle racer who continued to cycle (not race) until the birth of her baby; she cycled to the hospital that was nearby to deliver too. She was really fit to start with though. So, no, exercise is not dangerous for the baby, it really helps to be in shape later in the pregnancy and when finally giving birth, as that can be a marathon in itself.

I'm no doctor mind you, but I have heard that it's beneficial to exercise (light exercise, nothing strenuous) while you're pregnant. You can't do it all through your pregnancy though. Up until the seventh or eighth month I think is probably the limit.

Give your doctor a call and they'll be able to tell you exactly what you can do. They might even have contact info for an exercise program for pregnant women.

There are some good pregnancy exercise videos out there. If you've done Pilates then pregnancy yoga might be a fairly good fit. Walking and swimming are also great pregnancy exercises. However, you're still fairly early in your pregnancy. I'm assuming you've been to the doc and he/she has okayed activity??

you can try talking to the pilates instructor and ask him/her if its ok to start back up again even though you're 6 weeks pregnant. if it doesn't work out theres this thing called yoga for pregnant women i hear its great and real safe so you might want to look into that sort of thing if pilates dosent work out for you.

You might want to talk with your doctor about that but exercising during pregnancy is okay as long as you don't overdue it. Yoga is really good during pregnancy.

It would be good to exercise again. Just don't do alot of bending or alot of straining. Do light exercise that won't harm you or the baby and DO NOT overwork yourself
