Can anything be done to stop spotting? I started the pill a little over a week ago (normal Ortho Tri-cyclen - not lo) and I don't know what to do.

What do you ladies do when you're spotting? Do you wear pantiliners or anything? Or should it only be extremely light if you're "spotting"?

I'm confused.

I hate it.

Its really light at times, but then sometimes I'll have little clots. (Sorry if this is kinda gross.)

Also - I thought this pill was supposed to help clear pimples? Well it's made me break out :(

If I stopped taking the pill - would the spotting stop, or get worse?

I don't mean to be overreacting. I just find it a great nuissance. I feel so gross! And my boyfriend of 3 1/2 years is down for Christmas and I dunno. I'm self concious about it a bit, I suppose - Even if he does know and understand.

Spotting is perfectly normal. You just need to wear a panty liner for a while. Since it's only been a week, you may only have problems for a couple more weeks, although you should expect this for up to three months.

BTW, spotting can be anything from a little pink to full-on period flow (this should stop within a few hours however).

If it doesn't stop after 3 months, you should contact your doc - he or she will give you another type of pill that has a different chemical in it.

BTW, the influx of artificial hormones is going to mess with your system for a little bit. I do think that you're over-reacting just a teensy bit after taking them only ONE week. Give it some time. Your skin WILL clear up, your spotting WILL stop, your periods WILL get lighter and you WILL be a happier person. It just may take a little longer than SEVEN DAYS. Have some freakin' patience!!

It's totally normal to get some spotting and heavier breakthrough bleeding during the first three months of taking the pill while your body adjusts - pimples are common at the start too, as your body adjusts to the hormone changes.

I just use pantyliners for spotting.

Don't stop taking the pill because you're bleeding, if the pill is strong enough then after a few months bleeding won't happen until it is scheduled to happen. If it hasn't stopped happening after three months then you need to go back to your doctor for a higher strength pill. I had to go through about 5 or 6 different pills until I found one that didn't give me breakthrough bleeding mid-cycle.

Give it three months. If it doesn't go away, call your doctor. I had the same thing happen.
