has anyone else here come to feel that their life is nothing more than a waste of breath, care, and they may as well float stagnantly in a cess pool of lost dreams?

S**t happens. The thing to remember is that it happens to everybody. I have felt just like that many times, yet I didn't whack myself because I had a glimmer of hope that one day it would get better. Over the years I came to see that I was just being totally self-absorbed and to get out of that all I had to do was to get involved with something. It helps to have others around for encouragement when the stuff is hitting the fan because sometimes somebody else has gone through exactly what you may be facing right now and can save you alot of wrong turns on the way out. Also getting involved means to give something of yourself back into the community. Non-profits are always looking for help and that is a good way to turn your luck around to boot.

Please don't be offended, but I think you have what is called depression. The feeling of a lack of purpose is common to people who don't have a religion, so if you aren't religious then it might be a good idea to find one. I could suggest a religion, but that would discredit this answer.
