The world leader in education for 100 years America is now ranked behind most European Nations , Japan, and Australia .While Wealthy white Americans educated there children in private schools the educational system in America has been allowed to decline to the point where over half of all minorities drop out . During segregation at least minorities graduated and some even went to colleges .
Our class system where whites are the ruling class and wealthy whites make the rules and decide how best to educate the poor have done quite a number on our education system . Was this due to desegregating schools . Or were the whites right that blacks are just inferior. I remind you that African Europeans are educated and attend university in equal numbers to there rank in the population at large .
What opportunity does America really offer its minority class . I fully expect to be reported so do your best . Open discussion of the truth is hard when America is so racist .

It's a little more complicated than that. While some racism may be demonstrated by the wealthy white families' switching to private schools, it is not indicative that race is the cause... simply, more rich people are white, and they send their children to private schools because public schools are a disaster. The problem is not racial, it has to do with how public schools are funded, and this, in the end, becomes a racial problem because of racial problems which existed before desegregation: namely, lots of black people are poor, and live geographically near eachother, and schools are funded through income and property tax. We need fairer, more even funding for schools, and above all we need MORE funding for schools, but when some people see education as a danger to their lifestyle (that colleges and public schools are breeding grounds for liberals) or as simply a way of controlling kids until we can get them out into their low-paying jobs and teach them how to spend every weekday doing what someone else wants them to do for eight hours, people don't want to put up the cash.

The failing education standard is a symptom of western developed countries like the UK and USA.

But it is true that both white and black working class children do not tend to do well in an education system set up for middle class children. Black and white children of middle class families generally do quite well.

I don't think it has anything to do with black being inferior. They are as good as any white. It's just that whites hold power, give opportunites to whites. In such a climate blacks do not have the chance to go up the ladder.

In any country the powerful people dominates the less powerful people. It is in the interest of the people in power to keep the others low down the ladder.

I'm pretty sure that America has one of the best school systems in the world. At least every child in our country has the right to go to school and the ability too. If schools were segregated, racism would still be like it was 40 years ago. There would be separate bathrooms, restaurants and theatres.
If every child went to a private school, that would be totally going against what our country was based on. Most private schools are parochial (religious) and the violates the establishment clause.

If you want to compare education systems, you have to look at the differences. In Europe, when you are 16 you decide what you are going to do...be it a trade, or education. Then, you either go to a technical school for skills training, or you go to college prep highschools. In america, we have an excellent program called 'magnet schools' where it is very similar to the european system...your interests dictate which school you are 'attracted' to, whether for arts, or business, etc...they have been successful. NONE of this has to do with race, or more appropriately, socio economics. It has to do with rethinking a system...not expecting all students to learn the same way.

maybe but i don't think so. there are plenty of African American colleges, graduate schools. I think that you need to check your facts severely bub. its not only minority that are contributing to this decline but in white Americans as well. believe it or not there are still people out there who cant write a lick or even read. and remember that African Americans are the minority not the majority. And since segregation the percentage of African American obtaining a higher degree has grown. so what can we suggest? that there are white Americans who are not getting that higher education. check your facts before any generalizations thanks!

For the record to my uneducated participants above me, we are not popping babies left and right. how about in the south where the average white woman gets pregnant and married before age 13 and she lives in a trailer and cant even read? No disrespect but America is seems racist because people CANNOT let go of stereotypes. and they are living proof why we are behind the European countries who embrace different cultures

No.

Your question implies that diversity in our schools is the cause of a failed education system.

The only negative from desegregation came from bigotry where what is called 'white flight' occur. That is when white families moved their children out of the schools that had blacks.

It is up to the parents or people who give guidance to someones life to stress the benefits of education. We all have the opportunity to excel in our educating of ourselves. For whatever reason, many minority families do not place an emphasis on this criteria and thus the generations that follow, follow in the same footsteps. I was never involved in an intergration atmosphere as I grew up in California but I was the only black kid in my school. This in itself motivated me because even then I realized that all eyes were upon me because of my difference and I went out to prove the stereotypes to be wrong. So my conclusion is that it is not the system but rather lack of generational imporvements in attitudes. Even though I feel the school system sucks in its present state it is still possible for anyone, I repeat anyone, to take advantage of the opportunities available to them.

Oh yeah, America is completely racist: http://www.chcash.com/PAGE1.html

Guess which one of them is the leader? (Try the guy on the left.)

How does it feel to be WRONG?

Racism in schools robs everybody of the most precious commodity on Earth: talent. I want as many talented scientists working on medical cures as is possible and I don't give a damn what color they are. Not everybody in America is a racist - I helped start that band. During segregation things were worse, not better. Get a freakin' clue - read a history book!!!

Segregation is incorrect; not a solution to anything. Only racists like one of the answerers above would find it appealing.

At the university, I have seen brilliant black students who came from inner-city schools as well as really inarticulate white students who came from affluant suburban schools.

I think the answer lies elsewhere. Perhaps if American students put down the nintendo, turned off their TV, and did their homework they might get educated.

That's my 2c

no the system is failing because it is almost impossible to get rid of bad teachers.also parents are no longer taking responsibility for raising their own children and teaching them to behave.i also blame rap music which has made blacks think it is cool to be stupid talk ebonics and go to jail.bottom line is parents have to be parents not friends.asians are very particular who their children hang around, blacks could learn alot from them.
