I heard from a friend today (12/20/06) that North Korea is closer than ever to bombing the US and I want to know if this is true.

No that is not true at all. North Korea has the technology for nukes, however the nuke cannot yet reach the United States.

No their last missile test was an absolute failure. Those guys aren't as dangerous as they want you to believe.
