you started dating someone who was previously one of your best friends? I mean, I've known her since 4th grade... Do you think it'd be a good idea; I am just worried that if we do, we probably won't ever be able to have the same friendship again.

Haha, what I mean by ruin the friendship is I don't know if she likes me in the same way, and if I tell her, I don't think she'd ever be able to look at me in the same way again...

There of course is a risk...either way your risking either "always wondering" or trying it and it being the best thing of your life! I would make a suggestion to try only cause you'll never know unless you do. I mean you already know each other( and have got along this far), could be a match made in heaven. Good luck just becareful...you can still keep a friendship if it doesn't work out...just know where that fine line is.

I dated a man who I was friends with in school. I hadn't seen him in a while but we got reacquainted and hit it off. We realized after about 6 months that we make much better friends then lovers. It only took a couple of awkward months and our friendship returned to normal. It's all in how mature you are and how strong the friendship. My feeling is that if this is a really good friend of yours, then the two of you should be able to have an honest conversation about it and express your concerns. She is probably feeling the same as you.

if you do date her, you are right, you will NEVER EVER EVER get that same friendship back, no matter what. but only you can decide if it is worth the risk, because if it is, you may have discovered someone that you really want to be with and she may truly make you happy. If you reallyy really like her enough to risk it - go for it, you could marry this girl. but if its just some new, small feelings you have, stop and wait till you know its the real thing.

If you date your friend, things will never be the same. Trust me, I have gone through that route before. If you are willing to sacrifice the friendship that you have, then go for it. I advise not too. Good luck anyway!

I know from personal experience, it doesn't work. I was best friends with Jay from kindergarten all the way through high school. After we graduated high school we decided to date. As boyfriend / girlfriend we weren't any good together. We broke up and tried to be friends again and we couldn't. I lost my best friend and regret it.

Friendship goes first. A well established friendship like that it's so hard to find.

if you're families are friends you might not want to get into a relationship. That would make things awkward to the extreme when you break up. But if that's not the case, then I say go for it! If you like eachother...you shouldn't hold anything back!

It probably already isn't going to be the same. If it's already started, there's no turning back anyways. Just take it for what it is and go with the flow of it.

Go for it. Obviously you guys have common interests and like each other b/c you're good friends. Think how much better it will be to take it further with this person.
