My home has recently been broken into twice in the last 2 weeks but nothing was taken. The first time it happened the only reason I knew was because my dog was outside and the 2nd time it happened while I was acually at home. My one vehicle is broke down and sitting at work and so I'm sure that who ever it was thought I was gone because my car was not there. The thing of it is I think it's acually my neighbor because other people have said that they have caught her in their house. I want to try and video tape her (assuming it's her) but need some advice on an inexpensive way to do it. Who ever it is comes through the patio door and all I need to do is put a marble in the door so that if the door is opened the marble will be moved and I know someones been in my house. I initially looked at buying some type of motion activated camera but can not afford that - Please does anyone have any ideas on how I can catch this person

Where is your computer located? Do you have a webcam? Some webcams have extra features where you can set it up as a motion detector. Just make sure you computer is left on and have your monitor off.

Well here is a link to get you started. I cannot just give yo a simple way that is not expensive. Here you can get some ideas and options , Also look at some better locks and "Pins" for securing window and doors, Home depot or Lowes can help with this. It may just be easier to keep them out then trying to catch them. Good luck and stay safe!

If you got a still camera or digital, rig it to the door so it snap a pic when it opens. That's the least expensive way.
A more high tech way is to go to x10.com,they have what you need for video security at decent prices. If you have a VCR you can get a camera at supercircuits.com for as little as 12 bucks.
Good luck,I hope you catch em.

I know there are chemicals that you can put on the patio door handle, that when someone touches the chemicals, they turn colors and don't wash off. You might try that. Or, you could try a bluff, and tell your neighbor that you do have a surveilance cammera and that she was caught on it ( the time that you were home.)
