Eric's answer is correct until the last line:

so you have a triangle...
284 as one leg and the angle is 34. You need to find the length of the hypotenuse to get the answer.
sin 34 = 280/x.
i dont have a calc on me, but the answer is
x= (sin 34)/280

It should read:
x=280/(sin 34)
x=280/0.559
x=500.7
